Culture in Syracuse

Syracuse offers a wealth of cultural activities throughout the year. Museums such as the Everson Museum of Art, the Erie Canal Museum, the MOST Museum of Science and Technology, and the Salt Museum run featured exhibits and events in addition to their regular collections.

The Museum of Science and Technology also features an IMAX theatre and interactive science exhibits.

For theatrical performances, Syracuse has a number of facilities for stage productions by our very talented local companies as well as hosting traveling company productions. Ballet Famous Artists Broadway Series is run by Murray Bernthal, a local empresario of several decades, brings in top notch musicals --- usually between four and six, each year. For example, River Dance, Grease,KIng and I and Evita, to name a few.

The Civic Center and the Salt City Center for the Performing Arts are two of the better known local venues. Syracuse Stage and the Landmark Theatre also maintain a full calendar of performances.

Music in Syracuse is always a treat. The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra is an accomplished ensemble which plays a 44-week season. Also, the Syracuse Pops Orchestra and the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra, both branches of the SSO perform throughout the year. Their performances are always a delight.

In addition, Syracuse has its own opera company, the third largest professional opera company in New York State. Syracuse Opera presents three main performances each year. Their season runs from October to April.
